Pootles Design Team October 2016 - Totally Trees Week 3

I am enjoying being part of the October 2016 Pootles Design Team. We have each been tasked with designing four projects using the Stampin' Up! stamp set called Totally Trees.

For Week 3 I made a stamped box that I made to hold a stubby candle - I think that it is very striking! I love the colours. I had to get creative with the way I made the box as a 12" square was needed to make it in the traditional manner, but actually, the way I did it has made a very sturdy box.

I used a piece of card that was 10 1/8 inches wide by 7 3/8 inches deep. Score at 2.5 inches along both of the longer edges and at 3 7/8 inches on the shorter edges. This will result in the base of your box being 2 3/8". Fold and burnish the scores and notch out the centre flaps. Fold so that the flaps are neatly hidden between the two side pieces.

This is the template I made for the box with marks to the box one showing where to stamp and the red lines show where to put your tape or glue.

I marked up the position for each stripe, then stamped. It was as easy as that! The lid has decorations made with thinlits and dies from the Thoughtful Range. I used scraps of Pumpkin Pie card to form the leaves then then stamped with Old Olive and Pumpkin Pie to try and achieve an Autumnal look. The cord was made from twisted top stitching thread.

Thank you for taking the time to visit and read my blog. I'm fairly new to stamping and am really enjoying sharing my little projects with you. I would be delighted if you would register to receive my blogs automatically by email.
